LIME HONOURS CHARITABLE YOUNG PERSON
The Valley, Anguilla – 14 September 2009:
14 year old Megan Coburn who regularly contributes to her community in a variety of ways, volunteered two weeks of her summer vacation to be a youth Counselor at Camp be Aware and also worked as an instructor in the ‘Starfish’ and ‘Beach Camp’ summer programmes of the Anguilla Sailing Association. Megan’s community-spirit does not end there and when her neighbour went on vacation for a short while, Megan would bike down the road to ensure that the pet cat was fed and watered daily.
Megan, whose community service was highlighted by Ms Janine Edwards of Little Harbour, was rewarded with a US$100 gift voucher by LIME, the Caribbean’s leading full service telecommunications provider. Her gift voucher is to be redeemed at L&J Business Machines for the purchase of school supplies and comes just in time for the start of the school year.
This community-minded young lady said she chose to use her summer holidays to give community service because she enjoys helping people. Megan received her reward on Friday 11 September 2009 at LIME’s main office in Telecoms House when Country Manager, Mark Romney presented her prize on behalf of LIME.
“With so many activities available during the school holidays, you could easily have chosen just to think about your own satisfaction. All of us at LIME appreciate the fact that you used some of your free time this summer in such an unselfish way,” Mr Romney said. “We hope that you continue to keep service to others and your community as a priority in your life and we are encouraging young people everywhere to follow your example.”
Last month LIME announced it had a special reward for a young person, who used even a part of their summer holidays to make a positive difference in the lives of others. The public was invited to submit nominations from which Megan emerged as the winner.
