Hardwoods by South American Lumber

Architecture is an art form. Every home design is as unique as its architect and owner. As such, every component of that design must be carefully translated to the construction phase and impeccably integrated to create the final masterpiece. For your island masterpiece, a mandatory construction component should be beautiful, resilient hardwoods. And why use hardwoods? The reasons are many, but the three most important answers are quite simple.
1 – DURABILITY
Hardwoods such as Greenheart, a part of the Ipé family, and Purpleheart, found primarily in the South American country of Guyana, are two of the most durable and widely known tropical hardwoods. Also called ‘iron woods’ for their extreme density and the structural integrity they provide, these species are exceptional construction elements. Greenheart, for example, which is a very abundant species with phenomenal strength properties, was actually used to rebuild parts of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. Most tropical hardwoods are also naturally termite- and decay-resistant. They easily withstand the harsh elements of the Caribbean sun, salty “sea blast”, rain and wind, making them an optimal aspect of your building design for a lifetime of satisfaction.
2 – AESTHETIC VALUE
To the natural eye, Purpleheart is, well…purple. Other superior hardwoods such as Kabukalli, Andiroba and Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry) showcase beautiful shades of pink, red, gold and brown harmoniously intertwined on single pieces of wood. When left to weather naturally outdoors, the wood ages gracefully to an attractive silver-gray. When used indoors, enhanced only with natural oils or clear varnish, tropical hardwoods tend to be a stunning feature of the overall interior décor…whether it is your staircase, salad bowls or candleholders.
3- ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
In an age where “green” living is becoming the new norm, we must all strive to protect Mother Earth. Responsible hardwood companies only use timber harvested from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)-certified forests. As such, there is an environmentally conscious aspect of using these majestic hardwoods. Homeowners and developers can rest easy knowing that the timber used for their flooring, roof, deck, or gazebo is felled from carefully managed concessions. Eco-conscious companies also ensure that any wastage from heavy construction is used for high quality by-products such as furniture, doors, crown moulding, spindles, etc.. Mulch, sawdust, and wood chips are also popular by-products which can be used for beautifying gardens. Additionally, one health advantage is the fact that hardwoods require no chemical treatment with poisons such as arsenic, which is found in pressure-treated lumber. Most tropical hardwoods are naturally resistant to termites, marine borers, and fungi…affording you a stress-free ambience for all to enjoy.
So pamper yourself and ensure your next project is “Tranquility Wrapped in Hardwood”! The possibilities – and rewards -are endless.
