The Coral Reef Bookstore

The Coral Reef Bookstore is a general bookstore providing a wide range of books catering to the needs of all aspects of Anguillian life. This includes books for pleasure, for school support. and books that allow persons to take advantage of career and professional development opportunities. It is truly a literary treasure trove. We promote a love for reading and literary development in an environmentally conscious atmosphere. We encourage local talent as evidenced by our inventory.
The name “Coral Reef Bookstore” is reflective of our particular and unique context. Anguilla is a coral island. Coral Reefs are like bookstores in that their value isn’t immediately obvious but they provide a gateway to a successful economy. Healthy coral reefs provide homes and nursery grounds for a wide range of commercial and non-commercial fish and other species, provide sand for our beaches, act as barriers against wave action, produce materials of medicinal value and directly and indirectly, support fisheries and tourism industries. Books amuse, entertain and educate and provide knowledge and skills for personal and professional development. Bookstores promote mental and social development.
Coral Reef Bookstore is a community bookstore. We started with community support and we will continue to work with existing entities in Anguilla to promote the growth and development of our little island. We will do this by providing access to and encouraging the development of literacy and a love for reading and books. We will also promote respect for the environment and in particular Anguilla’s unique environment through advocacy.
The Coral Reef Bookstore will also support a love for books and reading in a social setting. We promote literary events, the first of which are a series of five book clubs which will be gradually rolled out over the next few months. These book clubs are all geared towards promoting reading as a desirable hobby and showing it can be coupled with other hobbies.

The Coral Reef Bestsellers Book Club begins in December. Registration has already begun for a limited number of spaces. Forms and more information about the benefits and club rules are available at the store. The basic concept is that the group selects a Bestseller which will be the book of the month which everyone reads and at monthly meetings the book is discussed and debated in a safe, social environment with persons having similar interests.

Coming in December is the “Under De Gazebo West Indian Readers Book Club” which is dedicated entirely to local and regional literature.

The “Bakers Rack Book Club” with its recipe of the month is scheduled to begin in January. However, a few prospective members are urging for an earlier start, so interested persons can register now.

In February we will begin the “Book Worm Book Club “, which is for older children ,and young adults 12 plus, flowing out of the Library’s Cushion Club.

And in March we have the start of the “Mystery and Suspense Book Club” for mystery and suspense enthusiasts.
