Weekend football
On Sunday the pre-elections campaign fever spilt over to the football field as Kicks United pillaged Strikers FC. Kicks United played well as they passed the ball efficiently and moved well into spaces. Consequently Kenny

Williams scored 2, Albert Connor scored 1, Kassif Macgibbons scored 1, Keshawn Ross 1, and Redon Walters 1. The end result was a six nil thrashing for Strikers FC.
In the matinee game, archrivals rivals Sunset Attackers and the Roaring Lions locked horns in a rather physical but very good game. Attackers drew first blood early in the first half with a goal by Euclid “Boots” Bertrand. Ian “Sugar George” Edwards extended the score line as he pounded home the second goal to give his team a two nil lead.
Following the half time interval, the Roaring Lions came out reinvigorated as their actions resulted in a penalty which was converted by Tyrone “Sunkous” Benjamin. Momentum suddenly swung towards the Roaring Lions as their pressure caused cracks in the Attackers defense. Then like the World Cup game in 1994 between Brazil and Sweden the offside rule came to the fore. A crucial offside call was missed as an Attackers player in the offside position began running towards the ball then stopped. With no penalty assessed Elman Derrick (# 2) of the Attackers rushed to the ball to score, giving the Attackers their third goal of the game.
It was then all sense of hope left the Roaring Lions as a cloud of disarray hovered over them. Several cards were soon shown to some players, resulting in the expulsion of one player. Again the Lions were victims of a questionable offside call (note offside rule to the bottom of the page) which denied the Lions a second goal. On a quick counter move Stuart Murray (#19) of the Attackers scored the fourth goal for his team. With time running out and hope vanishing, the Lions scored their second goal from a header from Denzel Brown. However, it was too little too late, as the Attackers conquered the Lions with a score line of 4: 2.
Offside rule as take off the FIFA website pg 31
A player in an offside position is only penalized if, at the moment the ball
touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee,
involved in active play by:
• interfering with play or
• interfering with an opponent or
• gaining an advantage by being in that position
