CULTURE POLICY GETS NEEDED ATTENTION ON ANGUILLA:
The development of a culture policy for the island remains a priority for the Anguilla Ministry of Social Development. Officials are working feverishly to develop the policy as they see it as necessary in helping Anguillians define and celebrate what makes them who they are.
Government wants to articulate and implement a coherent development strategy that is culturally sensitive and grounded on the principle that culture is inextricably linked with sustainable national development.
According to local culture officials, the policy development process is being managed by the Culture Policy Development Committee established by the Executive Council.
The committee has already drafted an action plan for the development of the policy, is currently reviewing literature, has participated in several radio interviews to raise awareness about the process and is now about to start a series of public consultation to identify the key issues needed to be address in the policy.
The next public consultation will be held at the Teachers’ Resource Centre on March 16 from 6 to 9: PM. It will serve to familiarize individuals with the objectives of the culture policy development process and also receive input on the issues the policy should address.
