Shara Proctor shines again

As the athletic season reaches midpoint Anguilla’s Shara Proctor is shifting into high gear with her long jump. At the recently held South Eastern Athletic Conference (SEC) Outdoor Championships which were held in at the Tom Black track at the University of Tennessee, Shara jumped a distance of 6.69 meters with a wind speed of 1.4meters per second. This jump was secured her second consecutive long jump title of this competition. Her jump placed her 9th current world ranking for best outdoor jumps and only twenty four centimeters behind Brittney Reese who is currently ranked number one with a distance of 6.93 m.

On Saturday 22nd and 23rd the Anguilla Amateur Athletic Association will be hosting the 2010 Leeward Islands track and field competition with athletes from Antigua, St. Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, the USVI, and the BVI. Athletes will be participating in various track and field disciplines. Team Anguilla has been working really hard to ensure that they are fully prepared and ready for the competition. The action will commence at 9:00 am on Saturday morning with a procession and will continue until 5:00 pm. The athletics meet will conclude on Sunday, so all members of the general public are asked to attend this prestigious meet.
