Anguilla makes a good showing in ECVA beach Volleyball tournament.
Members of the Anguilla beach volleyball teams returned home after participation in the 2010 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association inaugural beach volleyball tournament. The female teams of AGU 1 consisted of Mrs. Michelle Harrigan and Mrs. Marsha Harrigan, while AGU 2 was comprised of Ms. Janai Gumbs and Ms. Eva Hodge. Both teams played well considering it was their debut sand tournament. Anguilla’s traditional sports rivals St.Kits and Nevis were put to the test during one game but escaped due to experience. The Anguillan ladies defeated the B.V.I in a “Golden Set” game which allowed them to play against Antigua. After splitting the two match series with Antigua, they played another ‘Golden set” but were unable to defeat the more experienced Antiguans.
Both men’s teams suffered losses to Dominica and to St.Vincent mainly due to inconsistent passing. Despite that, Mr. Corrin Fleming and Mr. Adonijah Richardson were very impressive with their defensive work and overall play. The other team AGU 2 Mr. Calvin Samuel and Mr. Kevin Gumbs also had their moments of glory but were unable to capitalize on it. In spite of the results the players were thrilled about participating in the games. They are anxiously awaiting the next chance to repay the teams that defeated them.
The Anguilla Amateur Volleyball Association would like to express its sincere appreciation to NORCECA for sponsoring the teams and to the host country Antigua for so graciously hosting them. The AAVA would also like to thank and congratulate the players for participating in this inaugural tournament.
Mr. Ian Connor attends level two coaching course
Mr. Ian Connor a FIVB level one volleyball coach is presently in the Dominican Republic to participate in a level two volleyball coaching course. This opportunity was made possible by NORCECA as they seek to expand the technical skills of member federations. The AAVA would like to wish Mr. Connor all the best in this endeavour.
Sincerely
Winston Duncan
