MR. IAN CONNOR SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES THE FIVB LEVEL TWO VOLLEYBALL COACHING COURSE
Mr. Ian Connor has successfully completed a level two volleyball coaching course in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The course which ran from November 24th to December 7th had a field of thirty two participants. Participants came from Anguilla, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Dutch St. Maarten, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, México, Nicaragua, Perú, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, USA and US Virgin Islands. It was conducted by the Cuban FIVB instructor Gilberto Herrera with the assistance of Alejandro Arconada of Argentina and Jorge Perez Vento, also of Cuba.
The two week course covered areas such as proper techniques in the areas of passing, setting and blocking, body structure of the volleyball athlete, age when scouting should begin and various strategies used for the games. Mr. Connor is keen to start working with the junior and senior volleyball teams to further aid in their skill development. Mr. Connor is thankful to the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA), Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) and the Anguilla Amateur Volleyball Association (AAVA) for the opportunity to upgrade his skills and knowledge of the game. He further stated there are lots of opportunities in the world of Volleyball whether it be playing, coaching, officiating or organizing events; to access these opportunities one must avail him or herself to them by participating in the game.
The AAVA would like to congratulate Mr. Connor on his achievement and is anxiously waiting the imparting of his new knowledge and skill set to the players. The AAVA would also like to thank the ECVA and NORCECA for affording Anguilla such an opportunity.
