Phase XI - Plastering and Finish Work
Plastering of the walls has begun. The team plastered the exterior quite quickly and are now working on the interior walls. The first signs of "finish work" are now here. We made provision to install decorative niches with lights in several rooms to create that magical, cosy ambience on evenings. We've erected one in one of the master suites so far.
Research and sourcing of fixtures and other finish products are progressing smoothly. Sugar George took a day trip to Puerto Rico to view the warehouse showcase of Marva Windows. The key criteria in selecting windows were: operational functionality, aethetics, security and storm resistance....and Marva Windows fit the bill. We selected a variety of windows for various areas - glass louvers and large glass pane windows for most areas and aluminium louvers for the eastern side of garage and laundry. Windows are made to specific customer order so you have to allow for lead time before shipment. If you'd like to contact Marva you can ask for Lewis Hernandez, the Manager - Tel. 1-787-747-8989. Toll free 1-866-747-8989.
To add an interesting architectural feature to the entrance, we built a decorative log roof over the entrance door. It ties in well with the log roof concept of the home.
Armed with lots of research material and contacts, we're planning a trip to Miami to source the finish products.

Phase XII - Starting the Finishing Touches
We're excited that the finishing phase has begun. We took a trip to Miami to source key finishing materials like travertine marble and cobblestone tiles, bamboo wood flooring and bathroom fixtures.
The crew is now busy finishing the window and door openings as we prepare to install windows and doors which we sourced from Marva Windows in Puerto Rico and PGT Industries in the US. The wooden roofs have been sprayed with satin polyurethane to help bring out the character and natural glow of the wood. We have brought in a specialist artisan to create a hand-carved rock wall facing for select exterior and interior entrance walls..

Phase XIII - Finish Works Continued
The crew is working hard on the finishing touches. The plan calls for lots of detailed finish work including decorative window trims which the crew cast out of concrete based on moulds created on site.
The exterior of the house will be finished in a jute-coloured textured stucco. We decided to spray it on instead of apply it manually for a more even, quicker job.
The stone wall is coming on well under Ras David's skilled hands...it's a very time consuming, precise art but aesthetically, well worth the effort. We've scoured the island for interesting rocks of various shapes, colours and textures to get a varied, unique look. We even sourced some green stones from St Maarten to add to the colour scheme.
The glass louvered pane windows from Marva are hurricane and burglar proof. The windows are highlighted by pastel green window trims on the exterior of the building.
Our next step is to work on tiling of the pool and decks, bamboo wood flooring and the making of doors from specially ordered Brazilian mahogany lumber.

Phase XV – Tiling & Lights
Travertine tiles are being expertly laid by Emerson "Emo" Reid and his crew. They started with the pool deck and are now working on the interior. JD Proctor is completing the electrical work at a good pace...it's great to see lights on and fans twirling.
